Tobias van het Spinhuis, Sam, came to us second hand, his Dutch owner had some terrible luck, but it was a real break for me. He was 9 months old and had never had a lead on. His temperament luckily was superb if a trifle stubborn. In 'looks' he was very hard to beat and he knew it! Show him a camera and he went into overdrive showing off. It made him a superb show dog.
Next came
Minches Ringo,
father - Tobias vh
Spinhuis.
mother - Assi v Oresund
This one I bred myself, he was so like
his mother in temperament I decided to keep him before he got himself into
trouble! He was really strong and quite difficult the first two years. Quite
suddenly he stopped challenging me and became the best working dog I have ever
owned. What a worker.
Miss Charisma of Minches,
father - Homested Alleric. mother -
Minches Truce.
Becky came from what became the 'Hofwarth' breeder. She
was a beautiful lady with really nice markings, her movement let her down though
in the show ground. Working was not her strong point but she was so easy to live
with at home, I forgave her this, and her other failing - she did not like
children!
This was the first hovawart I found that did not.
Minches Astra,
father Tobias vh Spinhuis, mother - Miss
Charisma
Like her mother she is not a great worker, but like 'mum' is a very
easy dog to live with. Unlike her mother she adores children and is a 'mans'
dog.
The next two arrived together and never left us.
Minches Volker,
father - Arpad v Reuss, mother - Minches Astra
He stayed because a
'buyer' who I was keeping him for, cancelled at the last minute. Another easy
dog, loved to please and loved to play with children, friends with all but his
brother Vandal, who he hated! A real gentleman.
His sister is below
Minches Vega, parents as
above.
Vega was a strange bitch, very quiet and easily put off. I had to
be very careful training her as I am best with males! When she did work she is
very, very good. Unfortunately she is could go into a decline if I raised my
voice.
Then came the big boy
Pines Douglas,
father - Kaunottaren
Shakaali of Kynyaf, mother - Jordis vd Zollbrucke.
Codie arrived here
by mistake. I went to help a friend buy a female from this litter. I fell in
love with this boy on sight and ended up getting him. I did regret it a few
months later when he turned out to be the ugliest pup I ever saw! He broke his
leg badly at 7 months and no one saw him for some time. When he got back into
the 'ring' he was either loved or hated as he was bigger than anything seen in
this country for years. Later, he was accepted and became top
hovawart '96. '97 and hovawart club winner '96 Best dog '99. also Crufts Best of
Breed 1997 & 1999
His son came next
Minches Odysseus,
father - Pines Douglas
mother - Minches Vega
Wallace or Wally as we call him! is the
nearest thing to a 'Ringo' I have seen for years!. Unfortunately he was
even more willful when it comes to other dogs. Like a good
wine, he improved with age, and his work was every bit as good as
Assi. Agility is where he excels but he is no slouch at obedience either. With
people he was very friendly, he even liked the 'vet'.
My next bitch came as a rescue fom Holland
Houwaert's
Jiska
father - Vitis v Gaudihof, mother - Houwaert's Ghaya
Brisca
Jiska was supposed to be a biter! and had spent
2½ years in a kennel. the bitch I hoped to buy failed the rabies
tests so could not pass the pet passport scheme so I took Jiska as her lines
were good. This is something I did not regret as she has a kind temperament to
children and adults alike. The problem appeared to be her keenness to WORK. She
has loads of drive and 'possesion' when it comes to tennis balls! Not a dog for
the inexperienced pet handler.
Minches Kees Kilarney
is the
daughter of Jiska
father - Alex v Raisendorfer Hang, mother
Houwaert's Jiska
Bitches are not my best type of dog to train as I said
before and over the years I don't seem to have changed, Once again Larney
was too soft for me to work - unlike her mother! In looks she is
structurally very sound and I can't fault her for her mothering instincts. At
that she excells, if her first litter is anything to go by. She loves children
and is very active and agile as a cat.
Tyehelva Neo Nexus
is
bred back to my 'old' Tobias line
father - Hofwarth Desert Lord
mother Minches Heidi
I was heart broken when I lost Wally so had my
daughter Linda use her bitch Heidi to help recover the 'old' line from
Tobias.
Neo was the result of this test. While not as confident as
his Great Grandad he has much of the 'look' I was after, Playful and full of
fun, he is a real troublemaker at times and has so much energy I'm pleased that
I kept a pup from my next litter too help him burn it off!
Minches Chief Riever
now
there was a surprise as I had not produced a blond for years.
father -
Micona Chieftan mother - Minches Kees Kilarney
How could I resist
keeping this big hansom boy. I admit it was NOT a good time to keep another
pup, however Chief
has been a godsend keeping Neo amused and is the
calm, cool temperament I had aimed for. Even as a youngster he shows great
attitude, loves people and dogs alike and is as quiet as old Volker when needed.
Already he is showing great promise in the show ring too.
